Leadership in the typically “organic” processes common to social and spiritual movements reflect some of the lessons being learned in today’s “virally networked” organizations. Michael Hyatt offers several lessons he’s learned from the current Web 2.0 environment. He calls it Leadership 2.0–a style of leadership which I believe is also common to the leadership required to build movements. I’ve re-written or adapted his points to our movement building purposes.
1. Movement leadership embraces change.
2. Movement leadership demonstrates transparency.
3.Movement leadership celebrates dialogue.
4.Movement leadership employs collaboration.
5. Movement leadership practices sharing.
6. Movement leadership welcomes engagement.
7. Movement leadership builds community.
Michael concludes with this thought about Leadership 2.0:
The irony is that this may not be so new after all. Jesus Himself was this very kind of leader.
