Conversation with a Church Historian

I recently had lunch with John Hannah, church historian at Dallas Theological Seminary. I asked the question: what elements were common to spiritual movements in history? His answers:

All movts have:
identity
community
purpose/focus
love
spontaniety (regulation is the symptom of movement decline)
the ability to create, maintain and transfer ownership
small groups structures

This is what I’m learning about movements that have made history—they all have:

    1. White hot faith
    2. Commitment to a cause
    3. Contagious relationships
    4. Rapid mobilization
    5. Adaptive methods.

Would love to connect sometime. We have a lot in common.
