The Epidemic Nature of Movement Building

Cole spends lots of time discussing the organic nature of the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is meant to spread spontaneously. It is viral in its organic approach to infecting and transforming the nations. Cole argues that the Kingdom should thus spread epidemically. To spread epidemically, he then suggests that every ministry resource or method be able to reproduce and spread.

To do so, the pattern underlying every strategy, training or materials must be:
1. Received personally. It must be internalized and must transform the individual.
2. Repeated easily. It must be able to be passed on after only a brief encounter.
3. Reproduced strategically. It must pass on globally by being translated into a variety of cultural contexts and languages.

In another section, he maintains that Paul’s pattern of movement building leadership was:
1. Incarnational–lived as a model for others to follow (Phil. 3:17).
2. Viral–easily passed on to others (1 Tim. 2:2).
3. Tranformational–assumed that others would be transformed and become themselves change agents (Rom. 6:17).
4. Universal–applicable to every culture and with every people group (1 Cor. 4:16-17).
